Wanch Blues Night – A Real Hong Kong Livehouse Experience

Some gigs are performances.

Some gigs are conversations.

This night at The Wanch felt more like the second one.

The Wolfman Jack Blues Band brought a straight-forward blues lineup — nothing fancy, no backing tracks, just musicians reacting to each other in real time. The room was small, warm, and honest, exactly the way blues is supposed to be heard.

The band:

  • SzeChai Bluesman — Vocal & Guitar
  • Ko Chun — Guitar
  • Angus Tang — Harmonica
  • Brian F — Piano
  • Jan Ho — Bass
  • Barry Tam — Drums

From slow Chicago blues grooves to shuffle rhythms and spontaneous solos, every song evolved differently from rehearsal. The harmonica answered the vocal lines, guitars traded phrases, and the rhythm section kept the whole room breathing together.

The Wanch has always been one of the rare places in Hong Kong where live music still feels organic — no distance between the band and the audience. You don’t “watch” the show, you sit inside it.

These nights remind me why blues survives:

not because of perfection, but because of interaction.

If you were there, you know.

If you weren’t — come next time.
